Currently there are over 40 models of electric vehicles (EVs) on the market in the United States, a number that is expected to grow, with eight new models scheduled for release this year. Some manufacturers, such as Volvo, are planning to integrate an electric drive component in all of their cars by as soon as 2020.
At the start of 2019, there were over 1.1 million electric vehicles on the road in the United States. According to the Edison Electric Institute, this number is expected to reach 18 million by 2030.To help facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles the Jamestown BPU is offering rebates on level 2 and 3 chargers to commercial and industrial customers in our service territory.

Chargers must be available to the business’ customers, employees or the general public. Non-networked chargers cannot require customers to pay for the service. Level 2 networked charger fees may not be above the BPU’s average commercial rate of 7¢ per kWh. Level 3 networked chargers may not charge above the BPU’s rate for DC fast-charging. Chargers are required to be in service for a minimum of five years. If the five-year period is not met, the customer will repay the BPU one fifth of the incentive amount for each year short of the five- year period. Chargers utilizing proprietary connectors are not eligible for rebates.
