Employment Opportunities

The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) presently employs 150 people. Positions range from various types of engineers to electric linemen, laborers, wastewater treatment operators and clerk typists.

Competitive Positions

Most positions at the BPU are competitive under the Civil Service Laws and are filled from certified lists of candidates provided by the Chautauqua County Civil Service Commission.

Competitive Examinations

Open competitive examinations for certain categories of positions are given periodically. Advertisements notifying the public of the test dates are published in the classified section of the local newspaper.
