New/Upgrade Your Electric Service
New/Upgrade Residential Service
The City of Jamestown, Town of Ellicott, Village of Falconer and Village of Celoron are ever growing. Whether in population or electric usage, new services need to be installed or old services need to be updated to keep up.
Please follow the Electric Service Instructions (PDF) and fill out the New/Upgrade Residential Service Application (PDF). Electricians, please refer to our Utility Wiring Rules and Requirements (PDF) and Meter Socket Specifications (PDF).
Please note that per City of Jamestown Code, all electric work performed in the city must be done by a city-licensed electrician with the exception of owner-occupied single or two family residences.
Code Enforcement Officers
The goal of code enforcement is to resolve housing code violations with the property owners and tenants in a collaborative manner. The following are the code enforcement officers for the areas within our electric district:
Steps for Commercial Customers – New/Upgrade Service
With growing opportunities more electricity is often needed. Whether it be an upgrade or an entirely new service, this is the place to get started for your business.
New Customer
- Complete Non-Residential Service Application Form A (PDF) and Form B (PDF). They are also available at our Customer Service Office.
- Pay a deposit
- Provide identification documents to Customer Service:
- Lease or proof of ownership
- Tax identification number
- Two forms of identification - one form must include your picture.
New Service
- Fill out a Non-Residential Service Application Form A (PDF) and Form B (PDF) (Other forms may be required. If so, the Board of Public Utilities (BPU) will notify you and provide the documents to complete).
- Customer Service will sign you up for service based on these applications but may also need additional information.
- You may be required to pay a deposit.
- After the application is reviewed, a meeting will be scheduled with the electrician* doing the work to determine the scope of the work. (overhead/underground, location, etc.)
- Once the work is done, an inspection will be performed by an approved inspector**. (This is the responsibility of the customer or your hired electrician.)
- The inspection will be sent from the inspector directly to the BPU and the service will be connected.
Upgrade Service
- Fill out a Non-Residential Service Application Form A (PDF) and Form B (PDF) (Other forms may be required. If so, the BPU will notify you and provide the documents to complete).
- After the application is reviewed, the BPU will contact the electrician* and may schedule a site visit to determine the scope of the work.
- Once the work is done, an inspection will be performed by an approved inspector**. It is the responsibility of the customer or your hired electrician.
Existing Customer / Existing Service
- Contact Customer Service to sign up for service at the new location.
- You may be required to pay a deposit.
*Please note that per City of Jamestown Code, any commercial electric work in the City must be performed by a City-licensed electrician.
**A list of approved inspectors may be obtained by contacting the Local Municipality.
