The City of Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineering Technician. The BPU is a full service utility provider serving residents and businesses in Jamestown, N.Y. and surrounding communities with electric, water, wastewater, solid waste and district heating/chilling services.
Applicants must have graduated from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Science with a major in Electrical Engineering Technology.
This is para-professional technical engineering work involving responsibility for maintaining electric distribution system maps, records and computer system models. General supervision is received from a professional superior, with considerable leeway being allowed in working out the details of individual assignments. The individual in this position may assign work to line crews and exercise supervision over the work of subordinate employees during the course of an assignment or project. They will also maintain electric distribution system circuit maps and engineering records; create and process maps, projects and paper work using engineering software; digitize hard copy information such as maps and schematic sketches; record and maintain all State mandated inspection and stray voltages information and reports; coordinate new electric service requests with customers and contractors; assist senior engineers and supervisors with various engineering projects; data entry utilizing various computer software; answer the telephone and provide information on routine matters; operate a variety of office machines and equipment; and assist in the completion of various GIS projects and performing other duties as assigned.
The position requires a working knowledge of basic electrical engineering fundamentals; good knowledge of computer applications, spreadsheet, word processing, database, GIS, and engineering software programs; working knowledge of electric, and construction fundamentals, terminology and materials; ability to prepare verbal and written reports; ability to make basic mathematical calculations; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to gain cooperation of others; neatness; accuracy, good judgment, initiative; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.
